Q: What exactly is Unified Domain?
A: Unified Domain is the middle ground between copyright and Creative Commons. It is basically taking the best of both worlds and supporting producers who want their content and works protected in a way that best fits your needs.
Q: How can Unified Domain help me?
A: Unlike other licensing groups, Unified Domain seeks to better the connection between the producer and his/her license. Our goal is to supply you with the most specific license that will benefit you as a producer and maintain a certain level of protection. There are more options to choose from. In addition, Unified Domain allows you to change your license at anytime if for any reason you are unhappy.
Q: Is there some type of payment involved in a Unified Domain license?
A: Unified Domain is a non-profit organization, and our only goal is to keep creators content with the license. In other words, it’s absolutely free!
Q: Do I have the option of being recognized if someone decides to use my work for remixed content?
A: On our ‘Getting a License’ page, when you’re prompted to apply for your license, you as a producer have the option of attribution. If you’d like people to cite you when they use your work(s), then select yes.
Q: I’m looking for a specific type of license. Is there one that will fit my needs?
A: Unified Domain supplies four different types of licenses, General Domain License, Protected Domain License, Remixtribution Domain License, and Protextribution Domain License. More information on each specific page can be found on the ‘What are UD licenses?’ page.
Q: Does a Unified Domain license affect the current license I have, such as a copyright?
A: Unfortunately, Unified Domain does not play nice with other licenses. You must choose to license all your works under Unified Domain. This way allows for less confusion when people are looking to use your content.
Q: What works do you accept under the Unified Domains License?
A: We take anything and everything. Software, music, picture... you name it, you can put a Unified Domains License on it! Be sure to select the type of work when applying for the license.
